VULNERABLES, THE EXHIBITION

Vulnerables is an artistic project that makes visible and denounces obstetric violence by Silvia Marte.

This audiovisual exhibition that gives voice and image to the victims of obstetric violence is ready to travel as a photographic exhibition to any part of the world.

The power of images to change the world

The goal is clear: to break the silence that feeds obstetric violence and to do so through art.

Vulnerables shines a light on malpractices that affect mothers and babies for life. And it stops hiding these stories of suffering to generate a social awareness capable of changing the world.

To move the viewers and to do so with portraits and stories that combine the suffering, generosity and courage of the victims, who the author turns into contemporary heroines. They represent and open the way for so many others, showing their vulnerability, bodies and scars, with all their rawness and honesty.

Silvia and the team of La Cámara Roja have managed to put the victims of obstetric violence at the centre of the story. Brave women who have shared an intimate and painful testimony to be light, hope and change.

For this exhibition we have designed a transformative experience for the visitor, aimed at a plural, inclusive and diverse audience.

It provides enough data and information to enable a person who is completely unfamiliar with obstetric violence to easily understand this important public health issue and its dimensions and consequences.

Recorded interviews projected on the screen and audio clips accompanying some of the QR-coded portraits help the photographs come to life and tell their stories in the first person.

Stories that invite us to stop and be heard, an exercise in listening and empathy of great relevance for a society that ignores and normalises this reality.

As the journalist Lucía Martínez Odriozola said, "there are things that you only need to be told once and that changes your life". This is the underlying objective of the exhibition.

Would you like Vulnerables to come to your city?

Vulnerables offers the possibility of exhibiting the project in your city.

And so that you can visualise our proposal, here you can see some photographs of the exhibition and a short explanatory video in which Silvia tells you the secrets of the exhibition.

Practical information

To make the proposal more solid, the exhibition can be accompanied by a lecture on the project by its author, Silvia Marte.

Moreover, our aim is to continue portraying. There are still many obstetric violence stories to tell.

In order to achieve a wider social action, we propose to organise a day/s of collecting testimonies and portraits, in the host city itself, prior to the exhibition. In this way, we manage to involve the local population and media, generating greater interest and impact.

In addition, the exhibition includes accessibility for the deaf community, and therefore offers a transcription of the audio and interviews with subtitles in Spanish.

Although the work is in Spanish, we offer the possibility of adapting the exhibition proposal to other languages.

In previous experiences, the exhibition and its dissemination through guided visits by the author has had a great reach both for the general public and for groups of people belonging to specific and/or minority groups. We have already had very positive experiences disseminating the project to university and secondary school students, senior citizens, people with mental illness, people in prison, groups of gypsy women, migrants, refugees, among others.
